Physiotherapy and coaching go hand in hand with each other.

Most of coaching is you being there (present) and allowing patients to express themselves and being open.

Think about it.

Most often when a patient comes to you suffering from either physical pain or an injury, they are seeking your advice and help. However, injuries can’t often be treated with 1 session. Hence, they will be seeing you for a few sessions. This allows you the perfect amount of time compared to other healthcare practitioners such as doctors to build rapport with them and allow them to express their concerns, frustrations, and fears.

Why is this important?

Because most patients who don’t understand their injury or pain will be looking for instant relief and it’s up to you to help them understand that sometimes a quick relief will not be there and most often the journey will be longer than expected.

The journey after an injury or when going through chronic pain is never a linear line.

This is why physiotherapists are in a good place to help coach patients and help them stay motivated on their road to recovery.

“A great coach not only inspires but also supports and encourages others to get results” – Richard Schuy

Coaching doesn’t have to be complicated (and you probably do it already).

– Listen to them.

– Understand what they are going through.

– Help identify blind spots

– Help direct them to the right solution.

– Keep them accountable

My mission is to utilise coaching tools alongside physiotherapy, to empower individuals struggling with physical pain or injuries to develop a greater mind and body awareness so that they can manage their pain, anxiety, and fears with more confidence and feel hopeful about living a life of freedom again.
